Detailed Itinerary – 21 Days

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Arrival in the capital of Mongolia. Visit Gandan Monastery, the country’s most important Buddhist center. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Mongolian folklore performance with music and dance, followed by a visit to the Choijin Lama Temple Museum.

Day 2: Ulaanbaatar – Amarbayasgalant Monastery
Drive north to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved monasteries in Mongolia, set in a peaceful mountain valley.

Day 3: Rest Day at Amarbayasgalant Monastery
A day for relaxation and deeper exploration of the monastery. Walks in the surrounding countryside and insight into monastic life.

Day 4: Amarbayasgalant – Urantogoo
Continue to the Urantogoo region, known for its volcanic rock formations and wide open steppe landscapes.

Day 5: Urantogoo – Murun (Khövsgöl Province)
Drive to Murun, the administrative center of Khövsgöl Province, gaining first impressions of life in northern Mongolia.

Day 6: Murun – Khatgal / Lake Khövsgöl
Travel to Khatgal and the famous Lake Khövsgöl, often called the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” Overnight in a ger camp by the lakeshore.

Day 7: Rest Day at Lake Khövsgöl
Enjoy a relaxing day at the lake. Optional walks, boat rides, or visits with local families.

Day 8: Lake Khövsgöl – Shine-Ider
Journey through remote landscapes to Shine-Ider. Overnight camping under the open sky.

Day 9: Shine-Ider – Khorgo Volcano
Travel to the extinct Khorgo Volcano, surrounded by dramatic lava fields. Overnight in a guest ger or local guesthouse.

Day 10: Rest Day at Khorgo Volcano
Time for hiking around the volcano and exploring Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, surrounded by untouched nature.

Day 11: Khorgo – Tsenkher Hot Springs
Drive to the Tsenkher Hot Springs. Relax and unwind in the natural thermal waters.

Day 12: Tsenkher – Kharkhorin / Erdene Zuu Monastery
Visit Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. Explore Erdene Zuu Monastery, the oldest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia.

Day 13: Kharkhorin – Elsen Tasarkhai – Ulaanbaatar
Travel through the semi-desert of Elsen Tasarkhai (the “Mini Gobi”), then return to Ulaanbaatar.

Day 14: Ulaanbaatar – Ulgii – Sagsai
Fly to Ulgii in western Mongolia. Continue to Sagsai and attend the famous Eagle Festival of the Kazakh nomads.

Day 15: Eagle Festival in Sagsai
Full-day participation in the Eagle Festival featuring eagle hunting competitions, traditional costumes, horseback events, and cultural performances.

Day 16: Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park
Travel into Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, home to towering peaks, glaciers, and traditional Kazakh nomads.

Day 17: Hike to Potanin Glacier
A day hike to the impressive Potanin Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in Mongolia.

Day 18: Return to Sagsai or Ulaankhus
Drive back through the stunning Altai landscape to a nomadic settlement. Cultural interaction with a local family.

Day 19: Drive to Ulgii
Return to Ulgii. Free time for city exploration or souvenir shopping.

Day 20: Ulgii – Ulaanbaatar
